Introduction

The REGAIN building will be one of the first buildings constructed on the Works site. The overall development sets the highest standards for sustainable development for a wide range of building types. Biodiversity, social and environmental sustainability are among the basic guiding principles for the site and high targets have been set for the whole site. The building, when complete, will be used to accommodate and support local start-up businesses.

The REGAIN building fits perfectly into this context and hopes to explore some of the very latest and most innovative building methods and technologies. In addition to sharing ideas with other European pilot projects, it will also act as a testing ground for ideas and technologies which may be used in the overall redevelopment.

Context

The redevelopment of the former Corus tinplate site has been renamed ‘The Works’ and the 75 hectare acre site spans about 3 kilometres long and ½ a kilometre wide. The vision for the Works is for a high quality, vibrant mixed use development comprising business, commercial, residential, health, education and leisure facilities. This will include the Learning Campus, Community Hospital, Central Valley Wetland Park, Basement Park, a new primary school and a Business Park including the REGAIN Building.
